As you progress through life, it's important to keep an open mind so you can continue growing mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
But how do you do this?
Here are a few simple suggestions:
1. Practice curiosity daily. Children are always curious. Soak in and deeply observe the world around you, be in awe, and ask yourself how the things around came to be and how they work. Leonardo Da Vinci's genius can be attributed at least in part to his insatiable curiosity and keen observations about all facets of life and nature.
2. Expose yourself to viewpoints that differ from yours and see if you can appreciate at least some aspects of them.
3. Listen to music and read books that you aren't automatically drawn to or have even disliked and find something valuable about them. I hated jazz in my teens and 20s - now I love it. And in my late son's memory, I am going to look for the poetry in rap music that he talked about.
4. Keep an open physical stance. "Open your arms to life" as spiritual coach Carole Doré advises and practice a physical discipline like yoga or do some kind of stretching. An open and flexible body can lead to an open mind. If you have a habit of mindlessly crossing your arms often, see if you can't make a point of keeping them open.
5. Challenge your long-held assumptions and be willing to change your viewpoint when presented with new evidence.
An open mind allows you to optimize your enjoyment and appreciation of life and the world all around you.
